Johnson Named to House Homeland Security Committee Leadership
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Julie Johnson (TX-32) was named Vice Ranking Member on the House Homeland Security Committee. In this position, Johnson will assist Ranking Member Bennie Thompson (MS-02), the top Democrat on the Committee, in leading Democratic efforts to secure the southern border, oversee federal emergency management operations, and protect the homeland of the United States.
“Keeping our nation safe and strengthening the security of our southern border is a top priority of mine,” said Johnson. “As Vice Ranking Member on the House Homeland Security Committee, I am thrilled to be in a position that can help bring Democrats and Republicans together to develop bipartisan solutions on issues that matter to Texas families. It is critical that while we work to secure our border, we must create safe, legal, and efficient pathways for immigrants to come to our country and contribute to our economy. Texans have a responsibility to lead on these important issues, and I look forward to working with members of both parties to end the partisan bickering and deliver results for my neighbors.”
“Rep. Julie Johnson will be an excellent Vice Ranking Member of the esteemed House Homeland Security Committee in the 119th Congress, and her well-deserved appointment is a reflection of her exceptional talents and strong leadership in Texas and beyond,” said Assistant Democratic Leader Joe Neguse. “Collaborating closely with Ranking Member Bennie Thompson, this committee will address critical challenges and advance meaningful initiatives for the American people. I look forward to witnessing all that Rep. Johnson will achieve in this vital role.”
The Homeland Security Committee reviews legislation related to the security of the United States, including border security, transportation and maritime security, and emergency management. The Committee has direct oversight of the Department of Homeland Security.
Congresswoman Julie Johnson represents Texas’ 32nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving on the Homeland Security Committee, Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Administration Committee. Her district includes parts of Collin, Dallas, and Denton Counties.
