Johnson Votes to Restore Affordable Care Act’s Health Care Tax Credits as House Passes Bill
WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Julie Johnson (TX-32) voted to restore the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) health care tax credits after Republicans let them expire at the end of last year. The vote comes after Johnson joined a successful Democratic discharge petition to force the full House to act on this critical issue.
“Nearly 100,000 of my constituents rely on these tax credits to afford coverage—and because Republicans let them expire, many are starting off the year without the care they need,” said Johnson. “This is life or death for so many families in North Texas, and I refuse to accept Republicans governing in the currency of cruelty. I was proud to vote to restore these credits for those in our community who need them the most, and I urge the Senate to quickly pass this legislation to protect the basic necessities every family needs to survive.”
The House passed the bill by a vote of 230 to 196, with only 17 Republicans joining Democrats to restore these credits. The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
In Congress, Johnson has championed efforts to lower health care costs and improve the nation’s health care system, including leading two bipartisan bills to grow the health care workforce and another to reduce costs, paperwork, and wait times for patients and providers.
Congresswoman Julie Johnson represents Texas’s 32nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving on the Homeland Security Committee, Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Administration Committee. Her district includes parts of Collin, Dallas, and Denton Counties.
