Johnson became the first member of the Texas House who had a spouse of the same gender when she won her race for the state’s 115th District in 2018.

Since 1991, Johnson has been an attorney who specializes in personal injury cases, family law and mediation, according to her biography on the Texas House of Representatives website.
Following her win in November, Johnson said she planned to work tirelessly in Congress for “a future where all Texans can thrive.
Among the faces in the U.S. House are four new Texans, two Republicans and two Democrats.
The incoming Congress has four new faces from Texas: Craig Goldman (R) in District 12, Julie Johnson (D) in District 32, Brandon Gill (R) in District 26 and Sylvester Turner (D) in District 18.
Julie Johnson, set to be the first LGBTQ+ member of Congress from the South, had served in the Texas state legislature since 2018.
In her campaign for the congressional seat, she touted her record in fighting anti-LGBTQ bills on the state level among her passions as a legislator.
